Construction at GSC running on schedule

Construction on the student activities building is "moving on schedule," said Bill Moody, director of plant operations and facilities at Gainesville State College. The building project was started in November 2007 and is scheduled to be finished May of this year.

New fee for two-level parking deck

A $35 parking fee will be added to Gainesville State College student expenses this coming fall semester. The fee is being implemented to pay for the $4.5 million two level parking garage that will be built between the parking lots of the physical education building and Lanier Tech, early next year.

Phillip Thomas "Tommy" Abernathy, age 22 of Carney Lane, Blairsville, passed away on Sunday Feb.10, 2008, in Lumpkin County from injuries received from an automobile accident. Tommy was born on July 29, 1985, in Fannin County, the son of Phillip Robert Abernathy and Kathy Denise Atkins Abernathy.

Gainesville State College newspaper continues to be an award winning newspaper. On Saturday, Feb. 2 members of The Compass newspaper traveled to Macon to participate in the Georgia College Press Association's Better News Paper Contest. The contest gives colleges all over Georgia a chance to have their work entered to compete against their peers from other colleges.

Recycle used cell phones for tax refunds

As the old saying goes, one man's junk is another man's treasure. Among the Christmas presents students received this year were new cell phones. The only problem now is how to dispose of the old ones. Besides attempting to bury them in the backyard, resell them or even worse, throwing them away in a trash bag, students can donate their old cell phones and receive a tax deduction.

Barack Obama and Mike Huckabee were crowned favorite Democrat and Republican among Gainesville State College students, faculty and staff during the Gainesville Campus pre-primary primary on Jan 30. GSC voters casted a total of 436 votes for the Democratic candidates, choosing between Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John Edwards and Dennis Kucinich.

Virtual lab allows students to log on from anywhere

Tired of driving to school to access a school computer just so you can use Microsoft Suite 2007? That should not be a problem for students anymore because the Gainesville State College Virtual Lab is here. Actually, it has been around since last semester but the majority of GSC students have not used it yet or fully taken advantage of the online application.

Job Fair at GSC an opportunity for students and businesses

The Counseling and Career Services will host the Spring Job Fair on March 18. This will be the second Job Fair this school year. The Job Fair is hosted in the fall and spring. Edward Lai and Debbie Pierce are in charge of setting up and organizing each job fair.
