Possibility of pool closing worries students, faculty

When the GSC swimmers took to the pool for the intramural swim meet Feb 24, they had no idea it may be the last meet for a long time. School administrators, asked by the chancellor of the Board of Regents trim an additional 3.37 million from their budgets, put the pool on the chopping block.

Six teams compete weekly thru March

The whistle blew and four teams came onto the court as the first intramural basketball game of the season began. There are six teams in the spring league. They play once a week from January to March. Games consist of teams playing five on five for two 20 minute halves.

How does a sport become Olympic?

To make it onto the Olympic program, a sport first has to be recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). That means it is practiced around the world and meets a number of criteria established by the A recognized sport may be added to the Olympic program on the recommendation of the IOC's Olympic Program Commission.
