We at the Compass love the staff of the bookstore.
But we hate what you've done with the place.
Even if you arrive to buy books 20 minutes before the bookstore opens, you'll end up waiting at least 15 minutes in line, squished in that tiny room.
Not to mention the added wait if you step out of line to look at something, like the booklist.
A lot of college students and staff miss strolling through the open isles of the old bookstore, looking at the books, deciding on a potential schedule for the next semester. Plus, it's good for freshmen to get exposed to the books other classes use. It could stop someone from biting off too much and choking under a huge work load.
Even though shopping can be pleasurable, there are students who like having someone else get the books they need for them. It is much easier than wading through the isles, looking at all those note cards to see if you've found the right class.
The free ice water outside is wonderful. The only problem comes from disrespectful students who leave their trash on the shelves.
About those shelves, it's a looter's paradise, with the entire staff behind the counter. It would be so easy to take a few pens and slide them discreetly into your pocket or purse. And who would find out?
A main reason for the long wait has to be how understaffed the bookstore is. There are more than 1,000 students attending GSC and paying tuition. Can't we afford a few more people to work in the bookstore?
The people who work in the bookstore are so nice and helpful. It's a shame that the new location is such a disaster.
