Have you ever heard of light therapy? This breakthrough in modern healing is so simple and effective it will make your head spin. Light therapy consists of exposure to certain wavelengths of a full spectrum light for a prescribed amount of time. The best part is that it is proven to help you out, physically and emotionally.
This treatment has a very wide spectrum of healing power to meet your needs. This is available in the counseling center whenever it is open for anyone who would like to be helped. The best part is, you get to relax and take your mind off of whatever is happening in your world and just kick back and enjoy the sun, or in this case a full spectrum light.
It has been proven to treat things from acne to seasonal affective disorder, to depression and many more things also. Seasonal affective disorder is recurrent winter depression characterized by oversleeping, overeating, irritability and relieved by the arrival of spring or by light therapy according to dictionary.com. Many of us have a small and hard to recognize form of this weather we would admit it or not. It is winter, why not try it and improve your well being a little until the sunny days come back around? This treatment can help cure such a variety of different ailments that one might be a little crazy if they don't want to at least go and try it out. Think about it, does a bright and sunny day not just make you happy purely because it is a nice day? Subconsciously, it adds to your mood and overall being when you are basking in the warm rays of the sun.
This treatment is designed to do the same thing as that, to harness that positive energy and release it back on you in a constructive manner. You can get this application at a dermatologist office for a much more costly price than the counselors' office, and it is not necessarily any more effective.
This is not offered just to heal your emotional side as you can see. It is said that it also helps to increase blood circulation in areas of poor circulation by releasing nitric oxide into the bloodstream which in turn improves local circulation of the blood according to Wikipedia.com.
Only recently have clinical studies been conducted which specifically excluded all patients with any degree of seasonality. Before these studies, there was suspicion that any depressed patients who benefited from light treatment were really only having the seasonal affective disorder components of their depression treated. However, light therapy is now an established treatment for depression, regardless of seasonality. One advantage it may have compared with drugs is that results may appear more quickly; antidepressant drugs typically take several weeks to reach full effectiveness according to Wikipedia.com.
I only have one thing to say, why wait? This treatment sounds almost too good to be true, and the best part is, it's not. If you have any spare time in the week and would like to check this out for yourself, swing by the counselors' office in the student activities center and ask about it, or better yet, go get cured.
