The Compass Newspaper brings home multiple awards

Gainesville State College newspaper continues to be an award winning newspaper.
On Saturday, Feb. 2 members of The Compass newspaper traveled to Macon to participate in the Georgia College Press Association's Better News Paper Contest. The contest gives colleges all over Georgia a chance to have their work entered to compete against their peers from other colleges.
The Compass competed in the two year college division and was nominated in 12 different categories.
The Compass placed first, second or third in all 12 categories.
The Compass won first place in six of those categories including: Best News Photograph, Allie Jackson; Best Sports Story, Blake Trent; Best Entertainment Feature, Jaime Munoz; Best Editorial or Editorial Series, Allie Jackson; Best News Article Based on Interpretive or Investigative Reporting, Tia L. Lecorchick; and Best Campus Community Service News.
The contest also offered workshops and roundtable discussions for students and their advisors on how to build a better newspaper.
The Compass also traveled to Savannah on Feb. 28 and 29 to participate in the 57 Annual Southern Regional Press Institute at Savannah State College. The Compass entered the publications contest in several different categories and was involved in a variety of journalism workshops for print and broadcast journalism. The students also participated in special sessions on ethics and the political process and career preparation.
