The whistle blew and four teams came onto the court as the first intramural basketball game of the season began.

There are six teams in the spring league. They play once a week from January to March.

Games consist of teams playing five on five for two 20 minute halves.
Teams may compete with as few as three players.

"We are just playing basketball now. At least until the weather breaks for outdoor stuff," Director of Intramurals Ken Harrison said.

"We are all friends on the team," Akram Akubaker, a first time intramural player and member of The White Widows, said. "We plan on taking the 'W' today and the championships."

The White Widows did take the win over the Goon Squad II with a score of 69 to 66 in overtime.

While taking a break in overtime, Goon Squad II player Wesley Hawkins said, "(the score) it's too close."

On the other end of the court The Outlaws beat Don't Care with a score of 55 to 24.

That game was called before the second half was over in accordance with the mercy rule. This means a game will be ruled over if a team is ahead by 30 points with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game.

"This is my first time playing," Blake Daniel of the Outlaws said, "I just wanted to do a sport that was free and stay in shape."
